The Michelmersh and Timsbury Horticultural Society has over 70 members with approximately half this number attending each meeting. The meetings are usually held in the Jubilee Hall, Timsbury on the second Monday of the month, at 7:30pm. Garden visits are also organised.
The Society holds 3 shows, Spring, Rose and Annual, where members display the results of their hard work. In 2006 there was a very successful Fruit & Vegetable (evening) show in place of the Annual Show, followed in 2007 with the traditional Annual Show. This was combined with the Preschool Funday and other organisations were invited to join in with their own (fundraising or not) events, making it a village day to remember. There are some photographs of the event in the Gallery. Following these 2 years of experiment the membership agreed to follow this pattern, making 2009 the year for a full show, with other village organisations joining in with their own activities. In 2010 there will be a mini show, including the most popular classes from the 2009 show. The entries are judged by visiting judges and a number of trophies awarded. Show Schedules are given to members when they pay their subscription.
Very popular with everyone is the Annual Plant Sale. Members pot up their surplus plants, which are sold at very reasonable prices. Look out for the advertising in May.
Visitors are welcome at meetings and shows, a charge of £2 includes refreshments. New members are always welcome. The annual subscription is £6 (school age members £3) - this doesn't include refreshments! Membership enquiries may be made by email, or just come along to a meeting.   |
